It is widely agreed that data and information are central to an effective health system. From an organisational perspective, data on services, outcomes and pricing help to inform commissioning decisions and encourage benchmarking to drive improvements in services. The challenge comes when data quality or coverage falls short – how can commissioners, providers and service planners make robust decisions without having comprehensive information to hand?
